Why Use T6 Small Diameter Rod Instead of Wire
At 1–3mm, material choice matters. Soft aluminum wire bends under its own load and will not hold a precise pin or axle position, while small diameter 6061 aluminum rod in the T6 temper stays straight and rigid at the same diameter. The T6 treatment raises strength well above annealed aluminum, so a 2mm or 3mm 6061 rod can act as a real miniature axle, dowel, or support post.
